My Blog

Everyone seems to have a blog these days. To make my website more personal, I thought I would include my personal experiences with scrapbooking. In this, I would like to share anything new I've learned, exciting upcoming classes in my area, info about classes I've attended, and my sheer exhilarating joy at finding new stuff! Read on!

October 21, 2006: The weekend scrapbook retreat was a wonderful success! I loved having all those hours to play, play, play! The classes looked great, but here is a word of advice: don't attend too many classes if you came to get layouts done. Nothing is more difficult than having to redirect your focus with several interruptions. Chooses your classes carefully and then enjoy being taught new tricks and ideas from the pros!

October 5, 2006: I'm gearing up for a weekend crop hosted by Memories and More in Kelowna, BC, Canada. I love and I hate weekend crops. But this time I have a plan to make the most of time: planning, planning, planning! By pre-planning my pages, I'll have everything on hand and ready to go. No more sitting idle wondering what to do next. Yes, it takes time and effort, but it sure pays off when sitting down to crop! If you're interested in checking out this event, go to http://www.memorycrafts.com.

August 6, 2006: I was just wandering through websites and magazines checking out new stuff when I came across something I just must have! EK Success has a new line called A Day At The Beach. Think vibrant summer colors. I was impressed, then my eyes drooled at their new adhesive borders. Wow! Gorgeous and time-saving. My perfect treat! You have to check it out!
I've also researched a few special events coming up.

August 3, 2006: Just came back from the scrapbook store. Yay! I found some great new paper (I'm a paper junkie). It's brand spankin' new by Cosmo Cricket. I was informed that Cosmo Cricket branched off independently from We R Memory Keepers Comstock. You can really feel the Comstock influences in the paper, but it's different enough to be exciting! It's double-sided (which is fabulous!) and has a nice weight to it. If you want to sneak a peek, check out cosmocricket.com. I also found some new Junkitz paper; it was beautiful, but a little too girlie for my boy. Also double-sided. Check that out at junkitz.com. Creative Imaginations has some wonderful new bold summery paper out. Find that at creativeimaginations.us. And lastly, I would like to point out some new double-sided paper by A2Z Essentials. Great stuff! Find it at geta2z.com. or Superb Scrapbooking Store. All these lines have some matching embellishments (a must in my opinion). Psssst! Have you seen the new Chatterbox paper yet??? I'm dying to get my hands on it. First distressed Chatterbox paper and it looks amazing!

I recently took some very informative classes at Memories and More, located in Kelowna, BC. It was a weekend event called Practice with the Pros, and included some exciting, experienced teachers. We had a photography class with local professional, Kevin Trowbridge (http://www.photographicilluminations.com). He was excellent and provided us with a wealth of knowledge and ideas for digital photography and what can be accomplished with Adobe Photoshop. Next came Doodle your HeART Out with Andrea Wiebe. Andrea has done so much with her scrapbooking and will be published in Canadian Scrapbookers Fall Issue. She showed us a very important lesson with doodling: it's easier than you think, it's personal, and everyone has their own unique style. Step up your Stamping was the next class by Laura Carbonneau. She taught us different stamping techniques using Tim Holtz Distressing Inks and Embossing Powders. We all suddenly eyed up the distressing inks and powders with new interest, and several orders for more were placed. After a delicious lunch, we had an Afternoon Pick-Me-Up Project with Cheryl Overton. Cheryl has been published in Scrapbook Trends "Fast and Fabulous". She helped us a create a beautiful project with Chatterbox paper. And finally we had Karin Wilson take us through the dos and don'ts of journalling. Karin is a very busy professional journalist. We're all glad she could give us a few tips to make our journalling more personal and effective. The importance of journalling was highlighted, and I'll never make another scrapbook page without journalling at least a little bit. Karin also provided us with a list of books and websites to check out for improving our journalling: The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron, Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg, The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr., and The New Diary by Tristine Ranier. Websites: turningmemories.com, scrapyourstories.com/journalingideas.htm, pagesoftheheart.net.

Kevin Trowbridge is also teaching a very thorough and involved digital photography class later this month at Memories and More. It looks very promising and if you are interested, and in the Okanagan area, check it out at Memories and More website.
